Red Lanyard Lost At Disneyland Sparks A Mission For Kindhearted Employee

Theres nothing quite like finding your real-life guardian angel.

They might be someone you know and love, or they could be a complete stranger, like this sweet police officer who stepped in to be a friend and support for a little girl learning how to play hopscotch.

Either way, what matters most is that someone, somewhere in the world, is looking out for you.

Of course, in plenty of cases, you have no idea that someone has been looking out for you at all, at least not until much later, when the heartwarming truth comes out.

With any luck, right now, theres a boy or girl out there who has just realized that theres a very special guardian angel or should we say fairy godmother? watching his or her back, all the way from Disneyland!

Her name is Emily Gibby, and she works as a cast member at Fantasyland, part of the Disneyland Park in Anaheim, CA. Recently, she was working at a pin release event at the theme park, and discovered something lying on the ground that touched her heart.

Now, she’s taking to social media with a viral Facebook post, doing everything she can to make this right!

Emily Gibby was working at the park on March 24 when she found a plain red lanyard lying on the ground of the park.

The discarded lanyard caught her eye right away, but what kept her attention was the note clipped to it, which read:

“Hello! I am autistic, and I don’t talk much, but I would like to trade for Mickey pins!”

The sweet message touched her heart in an instant. Gibbs knew that the lanyard’s owner has probably been at the park for the pin release, when the company issues a new addition to its line of collectible pins.

The lanyard, she immediately noticed, only had four pins on it, but its owner had been ready to trade everything he or she had for iconic Mickey Mouse pins like the ones pictured above.

Once she pieced together the meaning behind the lanyard and the pins, she knew exactly what to do.

First of all, she made sure to fill up all the empty space on thatcord.

She left the four pins where they were, but then got going, filling up all the remaining spots with a super-cool collection of Mickey pins for the mystery owner.

Next, Gibbytook to Facebook, determined to reunite the lanyard with the owner who lost it. She posted two pictures of the lanyard, a “before” and an “after,” then described the note and added the following:

“So we did what any Cast Member would naturally do. We filled up his lanyard with Mickey pins and got him a Mickey medallion as well! But now we need everyone’s help in finding him/her!! Share this post and help us find our friend! Be on the lookout! Multiple lines of business have already been contacted and informed that we have this lanyard at Pin Traders for him/her! Let’s work some magic and try to find our friend!!”

Gibby’s original post was shared almost 1,500 times, but without any news of the owner, she took to Facebook the following day with an update after following a few leads.

She learned that the mysterious lanyard owner had been at the park with the Boys &Girls Club of America, but hasn’t had any luck tracking down the specific chapter that visited the California park in late March.

Now, she’s asking that anyone with knowledge of the pin’s owner contact her on Facebook or Instagram, or call the park’s Lost and Found service at(714) 817-2166.

In the meantime, Gibby is using her time in the viral spotlight to advocate for autism awareness. She posted the picture above on April 2, in honor of the lanyard’s owner and Autism Awareness Month, along with a caption that reads in part,

I have always known that people with autism have daily struggles that some of us will never realize, but recently I have learned that something as small as losing a possession could drastically change their day, week, or even their month… This month I am challenging myself to learn more about autism so that I can clearly and efficiently communicate better to people that may have it. And I implore you to learn as well!”

If you want to support Emily Gibby’s message, and help with her beautiful mission to reunite that Disney lanyard with the little boy or girl who lost it, pleaseSHAREin support of autism advocacy!
