Walt Disney ‘Bambi’ artist dies at 106

(CNN)Tyrus Wong, best known for his sketches for the Walt Disney animated feature “Bambi”, died Friday, according to a statement released by The Walt Disney Family Museum.

Wong was 106.
“Legendary Disney artist Tyrus Wong had a gift for evoking incredible feeling in his art with simple, gestural composition,” the statement said.
Wong got his foot in the door at Disney as an entry level animator in 1938 — drawing hundreds of Mickey Mouse sketches, the statement said.
But his first big break came with “Bambi”, the story of the white-tailed deer.
While “Bambi” was in pre-production, Wong made his mark.
At home, he painted several elaborate sketches of deer in the forest — these sketches quickly drew the attention of Walt Disney and became the basis for the visual style of the animated classic. Wong left Disney to join Warner Brothers in 1941, before the release of “Bambi” in 1942.

    From China to America

Wong was born in Canton (now Guangzhou), China in 1910. His talent for painting and drawing emerged at an early age.
He was nine years old when he and his father left China for California. He was separated from his mother and sister and would never see them again, the statement said.
“His father encouraged his talents by having him practice calligraphy by dipping his brushes in water and ‘painting’ on newspaper,” the statement said.
Wong went on to attend Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles on a full scholarship.

    A “Disney Legend”

Despite being trained as a fine artist, Wong spent nearly three decades working as a motion picture illustrator. “His work has continued to inspire and influence the leading animators of today,” the statement said.
In 2001, the pioneer artist was inducted into the “Disney Legend” hall of fame.
As one of the most revered Chinese-American artist, Wong’s art, life and legacy was captured in the 2015, independent documentary film “TYRUS”.
At Warner Brothers, Wong worked as a concept and story artist for 26 years and retired in 1968.
After retirement he channeled his creative energy into designing and building hand-made kites.
“Tyrus’ lively spirit will be missed,” the statement said. “Our condolences are with his family and friends at this time.”

Rogue One Relatives: 10 More Star Wars Standalone Movies Disney Should Make

It’s well known that the plot of Rogue One was inspired by a single sentence in the opening crawl ofStar Wars: Episode IV A New Hope: “Rebel spies managed to steal secret plans to the Empire’s ultimate weapon.” Star Wars has always excelled at this sort of world-building, dropping references to events, people, and places beyondthe immediate story to embiggen yoursense of the universe. What is the Kessel Run? Which border dispute on Ansion? Who’s the bounty hunter Han ran into on Ord Mantell? As Disney prepares more standalone “anthology” stories—a Han Solo origin tale is next—it’s going to need ideas. Luckily, we have some, in a slew of genres.

    Bounty: A Star Wars Story

Inspiration: “I want them aliveno disintegrations.” Darth Vader, The Empire Strikes Back
    Genre: On-the-lam road drama
Pitch: Vader’s brief, embittered warning to Boba Fett hints at adark history between them, one that could make for a taut two-hander: In the years between A New Hope and Empire, an increasingly unhinged Sith Lord—obsessed with finding young Skywalker—breaks rank with the Emperor to chase down Luke. But when Vader’s master sends a team of bounty hunters to track him down, he turns to the Mandalorian warrior for protection—and finds himself drawn into Boba’s violent, disintegration-dizzy world. We have no idea what happens next, but surely Disney has another $5 million bounty to throw at Tony Gilroy to make it work! Brian Raftery

Twin Sons: A Star Wars Story

Inspiration: “Ninth time. That business on Cato Neimoidia doesn’t, doesn’t count.” Obi-Wan Kenobi, Revenge of the Sith
    Genre: Buddy comedy
Pitch: What business was that, Obi-Wan? For context, Anakin’s just boasted about saving his master’s life for the 10th time. Except it’s been just nine times, because whatever happened on Cato Neimoidia* doesn’t, at least in Obi-Wan’s version of events, qualify as life-savingly heroic. Aww, you guys! So chummy, so playful. By Sith, you’reexpected to believe these two go waaay back. They even banter and shareinside jokes. But no one isprivy to their bonding. Everything crystallized, of course, on Cato Neimoidia, where Anakin only thinks he rescued Obi-Wan, but clearly there was a massive, hilarious misunderstanding, the revelation of which sends these two into a laughing fit so convulsive they knock teeth and fart a little, cementing their bromance just in time for it to all go crumbling down. Jason Kehe

(*Yes, we knowLabyrinth of Evil covered this subplot, but that’s one interpretationand not a particularly satisfying one. Besides, the canon is basically up for grabs these days.)

Almost Infamous: A Star Wars Story

Inspiration: The performance in Jabba’s lair in Return of the Jedi
    Genre: Rock mocumentary
Pitch: Everyone knows the Max Rebo Band for the performance that landed them in ignominyand landed poor Oola in the jaws of Jabba’s rancor. But before they washed up at the most sordid dive in the galaxy, the band’s debut album (including “Jedi Rocks,” the song of the summer that played nonstop on every controller across the skies) reached the top of the Jizzcharts. In this mockumentary, learn the history of how 12 misfits from Orto found their tribeand how frontman Max Rebo’s addiction to Dirvinian daiquiris initiated a desperate descent into the gambling underworld of Tatooine. Charley Locke

Fly Brave: A Jek Porkins Story

Inspiration: The ill-fated X-wing pilot from A New Hope
    Genre: Inspirational biopic
Pitch: When Red Six went down in a blaze of glory in the Battle of Yavin, the galaxy didn’t just lose a rebelit lost an icon. From his humble beginnings on Bestine to his distinguished career with the Alliance, audiences will witness the grit, humility, charisma, intellectual curiosity, bawoonka skill, chili recipe, and warm-heartedness that didn’t just define a man, but a movement. The “Porkins Belly Run” lived on for a reason, and these 163 turgid minutes will tell you all of them. Peter Rubin

Gamorrean Guard Academy 2: A Star Wars Story

Inspiration: The unheralded henchmen of Jabba’s lair in Return of the Jedi
    Genre: ’80s sex comedy
Pitch: Sure, everyone thinks of the porcine green meanies as humorless mucus factories, but before Jubnuk and the gang settled down to work the Hutt Hut, they were lovable snot-nosed hell-raisers turning Lieutenant Grodnowski’s training facility upside down! In this inexplicable hard-R sequel, follow the wild waddlers of Company G as they rig their commanding officer’s vibro-axe, stage mischievous raids on the sows’ dorm, andafter getting framed by their rivals and dishonorably dischargedmaybe even learn the meaning of loyalty. Peter Rubin

    Extremity: A Star Wars Story

Inspiration: Rey finding the Skywalker lightsaber in The Force Awakens
    Genre: Hidden-treasure mystery
Pitch: Halfway through Episode VII, Rey makes a startling discovery in Maz Kanata’s basement hoard: The Skywalker family lightsaber. The weapon was last seen on Bespin, tumbling through the mists after Darth Vader severed Luke’s hand—holding the lightsaber. In the decades beforeRey’s discovery, some intrepid artifact-hunter traveled to the cloud planet’s surface and recovered the family heirloom. Whoever that was surely did enough swamp-romping and stormtrooper-dodging to merit aStar Wars story. But more importantly, the adventure will answer that most vexing question: What became of Luke’s lost hand? Nick Stockton

Apartment One: A Star Wars Story

Inspiration: “Evading the dreaded Imperial Starfleet, a group of freedom fighters led by Luke Skywalker has established a new secret base on the remote ice world of Hoth.” Return of the Jedi opening crawl
    Genre: Romantic comedy
Pitch: After fleeing to Hoth, Han and Leia’s relationshipbuilt upon fiery and flirtatious Vader evasionmust change and adjust to its more contained domestic stage. Now (relatively) safe, they must build a home together in this odd-couple Star Wars rom-com. What kind of silverware works best in a rebel base? Should their ice-planet abode tend toward a modern or cozy aesthetic? And is it really always Han’s job to feed and walk Chewie? Watch as the unlikely lovers negotiate the difficulties of that first place together. Joseph Bien-Kahn

Die This Day: A Star Wars Story

Inspiration: “Many Bothans died to bring us this information” Mon Mothma, Return of the Jedi
    Genre: Espionage
Pitch: “Bothan. James Bothan.” He is the suavest motherfucker in the galaxy, the ace in the deck, preternaturally good-looking (in a predatory sort of way), amoral except for his loyalty to the crown (Princess Leia) and country (the planet Botha, now half-destroyed by the occupying Empire). And when the Empire determines to build a second, even bigger Death Star after the Battle of Yavin, the growing Rebellion knows that another ragtag team of rogues won’t get the job done. They need intelligence on the new Death Star, but this time the mission will take finesse. Deception. Sex. Alcohol. High-stakes gambling. Fast spaceships. And a license to disintegrate. Adam Rogers

The Sith Inquisition: A Star Wars Story

Inspiration: Darth Vader killed your father
    Genre:Hitchcockian suspense
Pitch: When the Emperor initiated Order 66, every clone trooper in the galaxy got a new mission: Kill the Jedi. Thousands of Knights, Masters, and padawans died. Some, through chance or skill, escaped. Yoda. Obi-Wan Kenobi. Kanan Jarus. A handful of others. After the Clone Wars, hunting down these renegades became the job of the Inquisitors, Sith-sensitive warriors hand-picked by Vader himself. Now, from the ruins of a Jedi outpost, one of these Inquisitors has acquired a broken, garbled holocron with a database of the Jedi order’s most gifted students. He has found a lead on the location of the last, most dangerous Jedi, the Old Republic’s greatest defender: Anakin Skywalker. And the Inquisitor has learned a secret: Darth Vader is actually Anakin Skywalker. It is a secret only four other sentient creatures know. Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda, wherever they’re hiding. Vader himself. The Emperor. It is a secret the highest echelons of Imperial power will kill anyone—everyone—to keep, because to reveal it would question the very foundations of the Empire’s creation. And now the Inquisitor charged with killing the last Jedi must deceive the most terrifying leader in the galaxy, evade the entire Empire, and find the nascent Rebellion—not to destroy it, but to save his own skin. Adam Rogers

Fire Over Coruscant: A Star Wars Story

    Inspiration: Fire over Coruscant
    Genre:Hardboiled noir
Pitch: After the Empire fell, Coruscant—planet-sized city, capital of the Republic, Empire, and New Republic—is a ruin. Constant battles have destroyed vast swaths from the lowest levels to the highest towers. Landing access is limited; supplies are low. The planet is divided, with the Trading Guild, New Republic, and Hutt Confederacy all responsible for different regions. The nascent First Order keeps things just dangerous enough for the New Republic. And everyone is hunting for former Imperial officers to put them on trial for war crimes. Shara Tal is one of those officers—once a fearsome Commander in the Office of Coruscant Security, she was responsible for the imprisonment and deaths of countless enemies of the state. So now Tal is on the run.

The lower levels of the planet-city are more dangerous than ever—in part because of people like Kalimar Revdo, a mid-tier enforcer for the gang that runs the docks one short transport hop from the ruined Senate building. Revdo was a thug and criminal before the war, a smuggler and gun-runner while the fighting was going on, and whether he was talking to Rebels, Imperials, clones, wookiees, stormtroopers, or Jedi, Kalimar managed to keep his neck resolutely unstuck out. The Coruscant Docks are a good place for someone with those kind of skills and that kind of love for credits.

But Shara Tal ran into Revdo’s bar, and Revdo learned to love something else. Whatever she had done in the past, she was his now, and he was hers. He might not be the smartest or slickest crook on Coruscant, but he could be the toughest. The woman he loves is the coolest killer to ever graduate from the Imperial Academy—and number six on the New Republic’s most-wanted list. So Revdo is going to get them off Coruscant—no matter who they have to kill. Adam Rogers

6 free things to do at Disney this holiday season

Disney’s “Jingle Bell, Jingle Bam!” runs through Dec. 31.  (David Roark/Walt Disney World Parks & Resorts)

The holiday season is a joyful time of the year but it can also put a serious strain on the wallet. Buying presents, decorations, groceries for entertaining all adds up. According to the American Research Group, Americans are expected to spend $935.58 on holiday shopping this year alone.

So why not let someone else decorate the tree, sing the carols and make the dinner. Is it possible to go to Disney and not spend much more than if Christmas was spent at home with your grumpy Aunt Dottie?

Lets take a look at the numbers.

Heres how a trip to Disney would break down this month.

    Airfare

Flights are looking pretty good for Orlando right now. says Leslie Cafferty, VP of Global Communications at booking.com and kayak.com. Median airfare right now from most places in the U.S. to Orlando is averaging about $290 round trip– and specifically the week of Christmas it’s up just slightly to about $350 roundtrip. But thats not a massive jump for Christmas week.

9 WACKY WAYS TO SEE SANTA CLAUS THIS YEAR

    Hotel

There are plenty of hotels to choose from in Orlando with 119,800 rooms available throughout the city.

Travelzoos senior editor Gabe Saglie says that although Disney resorts and official Disney properties might be pricier than staying off resort, they may be worth the splurge.

Guests at official Disney properties can access the park early thanks to extra magic hours–giving you better odds at getting on that must-ride attraction– get priority access during super peak times when the parks reach capacity and need to close early, get all-day shuttle service between all parks.”

Travelzoo currently has a deal at the Wyndham Garden Lake Buena Vista Disney Springs Resort Area where travelers can score a room for $69/per night on select dates.

Cafferty says sometimes waiting is key to scoring the best price for a hotel room. “The last minute booking technology on some of these travel sites has become much more sophisticated. Your odds of finding a good price on a hotel at the last minute are much better than airfare. If you arent seeing a price dont be afraid to book at the last minute.

    Bundle it

Bundling the hotel, park tickets and food can be cheaper than buying it all ala carte says Kim Anwar of MagicFamilyGetaways.com. She estimates that a 5-day, 4-night trip in December for a family of two adults and two children both under the age of ten would be about $1,579. If a meal plan is included then the price goes up to $2084.00.

DISNEY TRANSFORMS EPCOT INTO ‘STAR WARS’ DEATH STAR

Once youve booked your hotel, airfare and park tickets check out some of the best free things to do at Disney to help stretch your dollar.

    1) Check out the Christmas decorations at the Disney Resorts

To save money on the days you arent planning to hit the parks, hop on the monorail and check out Disney’s beautifully decked out resorts.

The highlight of the decorations here is unquestionably the life-sized gingerbread house [at the Grand Floridian],” says Tom Bricker of disneytouristblog.com. The house is handcrafted each year and made from real, edible ingredients and makes the entire lobby of the hotel smell like spicy gingerbread.

    2) Starbright Holidays Lights Drone Show

New to Disney Springs this year is nightly (7 p.m. and 8:30pm) light show feautirng drones. The Starbright Holidays,” a collaboration with Intel, is the first time in the U.S. that 300 show drones have taken flight at the same time. The lighted drones dance along to festive holiday music while forming classic Christmas figures in the sky.

    3) Festival of Toys with Nightly Tree Lighting

Check out the Once Upon Time Fountain area in Disney Springs from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. The daily festical includes a holiday dance party with a DJ, a tree lighting ceremony, carolers, pin trading, hot cocoa and oversized toys that come to life.

TURKISH RESTAURANT SPREADS CHRISTMAS CHEER WITH FREE MEAL FOR THE ELDERLY

    4Christmas Tree Trail

Walk through the trail and take in 15 custom decorated Disney-themed Christmas trees. The park goes all out to make it really feel like a classic Christmas with a light snowfall– yup, snow in Florida– and festive tunes.

    5) Visit with Santa Claus

Sit on Santas lap and tell him your Christmas wishes at Santas Chalet in Disney Springs. Avoid the long lines by putting your name on the list and get a pager that tells you when Santa is ready for you. Santa Claus the man is at Disney now until Dec. 24– and after that Goofy Santa is available for meet and greets.

    6) Jingle Bell, Jingle Bam! at Hollywood Studios

Disneys new holiday show Jingle Bell, Jingle Bam! features classic Disney characters, special effects, lasers, fireworks and more snow. The show, which is projected onto The Chinese Theater nightly,  is free with park admission ($97).

Got a little extra dough? Check out the big park party

Mickeys Very Merry Christmas Party at Magic Kingdom: $91 and up

With snow falling on Main Street and free hot cocoa and cookies, Mickeys Very Merry Christmas Party offers plenty of festive fun. The party has live entertainment, the Once Upon A Time Christmastime Parade and fireworks. The holiday party starts at 7 p.m. and goes until midnight on select nights. If the party is sold out then buy a ticket to the Magic Kingdom on a day that the party isnt happening that way you can enjoy some of the holiday fun and stay in the park longer.

Witness Disney’s new, powerful Death Star in… Orlando

Bride Asks Sisters To Give Wedding Toast, And They Completely Blow Her Away With Disney Medley

Earlier this year, Susie and Luke Kasteel got married in a beautiful ceremony. At the reception, Susie’s sisters Sarah and Naomi Carter gave the newlyweds a special gift: a very unique wedding toast.

Susie had asked her sisters, who were also her maids of honor, to give a toast. She specified that if it had a Disney theme, she wouldn’t be upset.

So her sisters took that note and ran with it. Instead of doing a traditional toast, Sarah and Naomi decided to embrace the Disney theme and sing for Luke and Susie. The pair created a ten minute long medley of Disney songs, but changed the lyrics to pertain to their sister’s special day.

They used a variety of Disney classics, including “Be Our Guest,” “I’ll Make A Man Out Of You,” “Can You Feel The Love Tonight,” and “A Whole New World.” And Susielovedit. Sarah told The Huffington Post, “Susie was smiling ear-to-ear during the performance, and we could tell she wanted to come up and join in. You can hear her chiming in with background vocals during ‘Can You Feel The Love Tonight.’”

All three sisters are incredible singers, which makes sense because their mom was an opera singer.

And the Disney theme was extremely fitting as well; Sarah and Susie manage a company in which they perform as princess characters for children’s birthday parties. It seems that not only did Susie love the performance, but the rest of the wedding guests did as well.

If you think this unique wedding toast was perfect for this bride,

Disney teases 28 minutes of ‘Star Wars’ spinoff ‘Rogue One’

Felicity Jones as Jyn Erso in “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.”  (The Associated Press)

The secretive “Star Wars” spinoff movie “Rogue One” just got a little more tangible.

Disney and Lucasfilm unveiled 28 minutes of footage for reporters on Friday at Skywalker Ranch, teasing the origin story of the band of rebels who aim to steal the plans for the Death Star the event that sets into motion the plot of the original 1977 “Star Wars.”

The footage skipped around in time and story line, but essentially sets up a world on the brink of rebellion. The Empire’s agents are everywhere, with stormtroopers roaming the streets searching for dissidents.

We meet the protagonist, Jyn Erso, as a young child whose parents, Galen (Mads Mikkelsen) and Lyra (Valene Kane), are of particular interest to the Empire, and specifically Ben Mendelsohn’s Director Orson Krennic. Without revealing anything else, it’s the specific origin story that still eludes audiences when it comes to the most recent “Star Wars” heroine, Rey. But twists and turns seem to await spectators in “Rogue One,” which finds a grown Jyn (Felicity Jones) in cahoots with the rebel alliance on a dangerous mission to try to stop the Empire from building their planet destroyer.

Director Gareth Edwards introduced the footage Friday, joking that they thought about showing 30 minutes but decided they needed to save something.

The film was screened for the cast recently, but few have seen the final product, which will premiere Dec. 10 in Los Angeles before hitting theaters Dec. 16.The highlight reel set the stage for many of the principle characters, like Diego Luna’s street smart Alliance Captain Cassian Andor, Forest Whitaker’s extremist Saw Gerrera and Donnie Yen’s mysterious, blind Chirrut Imwe. It also established a world that will look quite familiar to anyone who’s seen the 1977 “Star Wars.” Costumes, characters, and sets from that first film and some of the prequels populate this universe, including Alliance leader Mon Mothma (Genevieve O’Reilly) and Bail Organa (Jimmy Smits) and a few other cheeky surprises.

“Rogue One” also takes audiences to planets and environs that aren’t standard settings in “Star Wars” films, including a beach and a bustling marketplace.

“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” is the first of three planned spinoff films set inside the “Star Wars” universe, including a young Han Solo film set for 2018. The so-called anthology films are separate from the main trilogy, which kicked off last year with “The Force Awakens,” and will continue next year with “Episode VIII.”

“We’re on sacred ground here,” Edwards said, pointing to a seat the middle of the theater where he said George Lucas would watch and edit his films.

Edwards said he pitched his vision for the film to Lucasfilm development executive Kiri Hart on the Skywalker Ranch campus.

Now that the film is finally finished, Edwards said the experience “feels like the end of something.

“But, he added, “if you do ‘Star Wars’ right, it’s more like the beginning.”

5 Hacks To Be A Disney Princess From A Real-Life Disney Princess

Have you ever heard the wolf cry to the blue corn moon? Or asked the grinning bobcat why he grinned?

    Well, why the heck not?

Disney’s “Moana” introduces us to a new kind of Disney heroine, and according to the voice of Moana, Auli’i Cravalho, being a real Disney Princess is easier than you thought.

In other words, you’ll know why all those bobcats are grinning in no time.

    1. Want animals to follow you around when you sing? There’s an easy trick.

Cravalho tells The Huffington Post that, although animals don’t follow her on their own, there is an easy way to get them into your singing.

“My cat does follow me around whenever I’m moving about the house. I’m pretty sure it’s just because I keep treats in my pocket,” she said.

     2. Tap into your own magic powers.

Many Disney Princesses have special abilities. Even Moana, an atypical Disney heroine, has a magical connection with the ocean; however, Cravalho says believing in yourself is the most powerful trait of all.

When talking about getting the role, the actress said, “I realized that I can pretty much do anything I set my mind to. I wasn’t planning on getting this role, but I’m so incredibly happy with where I’ve ended up. Without me trying out for it, without me going out on that limb, I would’ve never known.”

“My secret power is believing in myself. I’m never not going to believe in myself ever again,” said Cravalho.

    3. Again, your animal sidekicks are all about food.

The movie has a great line where Maui says that Moana is a princess because she has an animal sidekick.

Cravalho told us she can’t actually talk to animals but whenever she goes to eat, her cat knows to follow.

“As soon as I stand up, she knows to bolt into the kitchen,” said Cravalho.

If you want your own animal sidekick, it’s all about the treats.

    4. Who needs to paint with the colors of the wind? Just use some watercolors.

Painting with the colors of the wind sounds difficult, but Cravalho says that isn’t the case.

“I’ve always been a painter actually,” she said, “Especially with watercolors, so I think I can paint with the colors of the wind.”

    5.  Vanquishing villains is as easy as getting your morning coffee.

Cravalho said villains come in all sorts of forms.

“Mornings are always evil villains for me. Working on a Sunday, that’s a formidable foe, let me tell you,” said Cravalho with a laugh. “I’ve defeated the foe, but coffee has been my best sidekick.”

The actress tells us “Moana” is all about “finding yourself.” Just follow the steps above and you can find yourself living out the Disney Princess life, too.

    ”Moana” is in theaters now.

    Wow.

We’re glad to see Khlo Kardashian‘s ex surrounded by loved ones during the holidays, especially amid reports he’s staying away from “negative influences.”

As we previously shared, Lamar had a “low-key” 37th birthday just a few weeks ago, and it really seems like he’s keeping on the straight and narrow!

It’s almost hard to believe his near fatal overdose was a little over a year ago.

‘Frozen,’ Marvel and more: Hong Kong Disneyland’s huge expansion plans

(CNN)Are the icy powers of “Frozen” stars Elsa, Anna and Olaf magical enough to draw tourists back to the world’s smallest Disney resort?

Hong Kong Disneyland execs certainly hope so.
In an effort to renew interest in the Hong Kong Disneyland Resort, which has experienced a drop in visitor numbers, Disney has announced a multi-year, $1.4 billion development plan that includes new themed areas, attractions and entertainment.
Hong Kong Disneyland said in a statement there would be new attractions launching almost every year, from 2018 through 2023.
Among the highlights is a new “Frozen” themed area featuring rides, dining, shopping and entertainment based around the characters and stories from the kingdom of Arendelle.
It’s due to open in 2020.

      Locals

“We are more excited than ever about the future of Hong Kong Disneyland,” said Bob Chapek, chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, in a statement.
“We are bringing the best of The Walt Disney Company to this wonderful tourist destination, giving guests from around the world an experience only Disney can deliver and an experience they can only have with us at Hong Kong Disneyland.”
In terms of new accommodation offerings, the Disney Explorers Lodge resort hotel will open later in the first half of 2017.
For a look at some of the concept art for the new additions, check out the above gallery.

Hong Kong government footing more than half the bill

For many Mickey Mouse fans in the region, Hong Kong’s Disneyland has become an afterthought following the flashy opening of the massive Shanghai Disney Resort in June of this year.
The expansion might give them reason to come back.
According to Disney’s statement, the plan will be funded by Hong Kong Disneyland’s shareholders — subsidiaries of the Walt Disney Company and the Hong Kong Government, which owns a 53% stake in the park.
This means the shares of the project funded by the company and the government will be approximately $650 million and $750 million, respectively, subject to funding approval by both sides.
According to a report in the South China Morning Post, the expansion is expected to create 5,000 to 8,000 jobs across the tourism industry.
“Despite dwindling tourist numbers, [Commerce Minister Greg So Kam-leung] expects the park’s new offerings to help attract up to 9.5 million visitors annually by 2025, up from 6.8 million in 2015,” says the SCMP report.
“The expansion comes after the park’s first descent into the red in five years and large-scale layoffs earlier this year. It lost a total of HK$148 million [$19 million] last year, while the number of visitors dropped 9.3%.”

Disney Has To Change Moana’s Title in Italy To Avoid Confusion With A Famous Porn Star!

For most of us, Moana is the upcoming animated

Moana Pozzi rose to popularity after starring in her first adult film Valentina, Girl in Heat while also working on a children’s show Tip Tap Club. Though she denied it was her on film, the beauty was suspended from TV, only creating a spike in her popularity.

After her first A-level porn film Fantastica Moana, the Italian media’s fascination grew and Pozzi quickly became a regular on TV shows.

She was also celebrated for publicly speaking her mind about gay and sexual rights, and even ran for mayor of Rome under a platform of legalizing brothels and creating “love parks.” She died in 1994 at the age of 33.

Moana crashes to theaters November 23… but now we may be more interested in watching a biopic about her erotic counterpart!

‘Possibilities Are Open’ For LGBTQ Disney Princess, Directors Say

Now that Disney is releasing “Moana,” who knows how far they’ll go?

Besides giving us a new catchy song in Lin-Manuel Miranda’s “How Far I’ll Go,” “Moana” introduces us to a new kind of Disney princess. In complete contrast to a damsel in distress, Disney’s first Polynesian princess, Moana (Auli’i Cravalho), is described by directors Ron Clements and John Musker as “badass.”

The pair told The Huffington Post that they started with a much different story focused on the demigod Maui, voiced by Dwayne Johnson in the movie.

“There was sort of a rescue mission where there was a girl whose lover had been kidnapped, and basically she went to rescue the guy. That was one of the myths that we used for the original story,” said Musker.

After a three-week research trip to learn more about the culture, the directors said it was clear the focus should shift to Moana.

“There was never a romance in that [”Moana”] story. It was a ‘True Grit’ thing of this young girl on a quest, and the balance of nature and the fate of her world is at stake,” said Clements.

Musker told us the movie is “pushing [Moana] into new territory.”

“We made her legs fuller and her hips are fuller to make her capable of these action stunts that we wanted to do, where she can dive off cliffs and those sort of things,” added Musker.

From Ariel helping save her prince in “The Little Mermaid” to Tiana, the first black princess, in “The Princess and the Frog,” Clements and Musker are known for exploring “new territory” with Disney. With all these firsts, we asked the directors when Disney plans to feature its first LGBTQ princess.

Clements said, “It seems like the possibilities are pretty open at this point.”

Musker added that he and Clements don’t have control of what Disney does, but he explained how an LGBTQ princess could make it to the big screen.

“It would be driven by a director or a directorial team that really wanted to push that and if [Disney Animation’s Chief Creative Officer] John Lasseter liked the idea, but I would say we haven’t ever really [had] restrictions placed on what we’ve done,” said Musker.

As proof the directing pair operates sans restrictions, “Moana” even makes jokes at Disney’s expense. One of the best lines comes when Maui tells Moana, “If you wear a dress and you have an animal sidekick, you’re a princess,” poking fun at the classic trope.

Moana does wear a dress and she’s got an animal sidekick, but don’t call her a princess, dude.

“This is a different kind of story and a different kind of girl,” said Clements.

      ”Moana” hits theaters Nov. 23.

Nothing Will Ever Be As Awkward As This Old Hilary Duff Disney Promo

Remember that weird half-mast lightsaber your favorite Disney Channel stars swung around in the early 2000s? Apparently it wasn’t a hypnotizing device to make you watch the “Even Stevens” musical for the third consecutive time.

In newly surfaced outtakes from the beloved episodic interludes, it’s clear that things were less magical in the land of Disney then they appeared to be. The wand is actually a green screen prop and the tween stars wielding such power look like they’d rather be doing just about anything else.

No, seriously. Has anyone seen Christy Carlson Romano in the last decade? Because if there is a Disney child star purgatory, it would definitely be Beans forcing you to smile and wave that wand for eternity.

Soaring Disney Studios hopes for $7bn fairytale ending to its year

Disney prepares to add Donald Trump to ‘Hall of Presidents’ attraction

(Walt Disney World Parks & Resorts)

Celebrities may not be ready to accept Donald Trump as the next president of the United States– but Disney World is gearing up for America’s new leader.

On a quarterly earnings call Thursday, Disney CEO Robert Iger told investors that the park is readying its iconic attractionthe Hall of Presidents at Disneys Magic Kingdom parkfor a new figure of the President-elect, reports Variety.

Smooth transitions are good, Iger said after President Barack Obama welcomed Trump to the White House Thursday afternoon.

I will say on the smooth transitions front, we are going through a smooth transition as well. We have already prepared a bust of President-elect Trump to go into our Hall of the Presidents at Disney World.

The Hall of Presidents first opened in 1971 in Liberty Square and features animatronic figures of every U.S. president from George Washington to Obama.

On Friday, Disney posted an official closure notice online stating that the attraction will be closed for refurbishment from January 17 through June 29, 2017, which theme park blog Inside the Magic speculates is to make improvements and install the new Trump figure.

On social media, some fans of the historic attraction lamented the new addition.

      But some were excited.

The Disney Princesses Ranked By Betchiness

As we all know, the world is a literal ball of flames, but there are some things that still matter. Namely, the betchiness of some of our favorite Disney princesses. Now, by virtue of being princesses, all the Disney girls are fairly betchy, but here is our ranking of the most, and least, of them all. If your favorite princess is missing, it is because they are middle of the road betchy and I dont have the time for it. If youre upset, remind yourself that Donald Trump is literally going to be president and there is other shit to worry about rn.

      ARIEL

Ariel is the betchiest of the princesses for a number of reasons. For one, she is 16, which is the second betchiest age after 21. She starts shit off strong by both arriving late for the shell-based, all-mermaid choir that she is apart of (nice extracurriculars, Ar); and being the youngest and hottest of her sisters. She then continues the betchiness by being a little shit to her dad, who she refers to exclusively as Daaaaaadddyyyyy and disregards all of his advice in favor of chilling in her giant room full of shit she doesnt need and pursuing a hot rich guy that she saw onceand thats literally like, the first five minutes of the movie. Ariel is then able to snag said dude (who is too nervous to kiss her btw) without having to say shit, and beats out some wack-ass brunette in the process. Also, Ariel is a mermaid and only wears a bra. Case. Closed.

Taking A Stand: Disney Will Add Donald Trump To Its Animatronic Hall Of Presidents, But It Will Be Able To Feel Pain

With protests erupting across the country this week and emotions running high, American companies are trying to make sense of how to react to a Trump presidential election win. But one major company has clearly made up its mind and just came down squarely in the anti-Trump camp in a big way: Donald Trump will be added to Disneys Hall Of Presidents, but his animatronic figure will be able to feel pain.

Wow. Disney just showed that it does not pull punches when it comes to what the company believes in. Check out the press release they put out this morning:

Disney prides itself on promoting inclusivity, empathy, and non-violence, which are values that Mr. Trumps presidency threatens. Thats why when we eventually add him to our Hall Of Presidents exhibit in Disney Worlds Magic Kingdom, his mechanical replica will bear the capacity to suffer horribly, and without limit. Being a company that caters to diverse families, we felt it was a moral responsibility to have Mr. Trumps robotic counterpart be receptive to extreme thirst and burning sensations, while also being wired with the knowledge that it can never receive the sweet mercy of death. This is the best way for us to uphold the Hall Of Presidents tradition while also voicing our vigorous objection to the Trump administration.

Given that Disneys software makes the animatronic believe its bones are shattering each time it moves or speaks, this company clearly wants people to know its not onboard the Trump train.

Park visitors who feel similarly opposed to Trumps presidency can rest assured that his Hall Of Presidents double will be designed to experience anxiety, so its always aware that more pain is coming. Although the machine will understand what joy is, its programming will never allow it to feel that.

And Disneys not letting Trump off the hook there. The replicas for Abraham Lincoln and George Washington will even be reprogrammed to slap, scratch, and pry the fingernails off the animatronic Trump, which will respond to such painful stimuli by gasping, crying, screaming, vomiting, or a mix of all of these.

If that doesnt send a powerful statement about where Disney stands politically, we dont know what does.

Its safe to say we wont see the Trumps vacationing there anytime soon. Dont share Disneys disdain for a Trump presidency? You may be better off heading to Space Mountain instead of the Hall Of Presidents, because Disney has officially drawn the battle line right there.
