Eating at Disneyland’s newest restaurant costs as much as your rent

This Disneyland promposal sets the bar pretty high

L.A. high-schoolers Valerie and Gabriel sold custom buttons together for months to save up enough money to visit Disneyland, their third time making the trip together.

This time, though, Gabriel had a surprise in store, and you know what time of year it is: promposal season, baby!

Valerie spoke to Mashable and walked us through the steps Gabriel went to to make this sweet Disney promposal happen.

While the couple roamed the park and took pictures with characters, a separate group of friends got a pair of custom ears embroidered to say “Prom?” at Gabriel’s request.

When the time was right, while taking a picture with Pooh, Gabriel popped the question with a sign that read “Prom would be Pooh without you so bee my honey,” and gave her the ears.

Valerie said of the moment it happened: “I was speechless and extremely happy. I couldn’t believe it. It was a dream come true!”

She says they’re both shocked at how many people have seen and responded to her tweet, saying, “it was weird,” but that it makes her “happy knowing others love the idea!”

Disney’s live-action ‘Mulan’ is already doomed, probably

Another day, another egregious misstep in the world of remakes and reboots. Disney’s upcoming live-action remake of Mulan will reportedly have no songs, according to the film’s director.

“No songs right now, much to the horror of my children,” director Niki Caro (Whale Rider) told Moviefone. The same reporter spoke with Disney’s President of Motion Picture Production, Sean Bailey, who pointed in the same direction.

Mulan is clearly an empowered-female story but we can also do something new in this reimagining, make it a little more muscular, stronger, with touch of Ridley Scott, Bailey told Vulture.

Caro also used the word “muscular” as well as “thrilling” and “entertaining.” Their take on Mulan is less musical Disney and more epic action movie, based in Chinese legend. It makes sense that songs about who you are inside and what type of girl to fight for wouldn’t fit into a film like that, but it feels like a betrayal to a classic soundtrack, especially after Beauty and the Beast barely strayed from its source material and opened to 170 million this past weekend.

The film isn’t due until 2018 and is still in its early stages, so this *could* change. The project already ran into backlash in 2016, when an older, leaked script depicted a white savior (later versions course-corrected). In the wake of Hollywood fails such as The Great Wall and Iron Fist, Mulan clearly has a lot riding on it.

But can’t we please, please have some songs?

Writer Accuses Disney Of Stealing Idea For ‘Zootopia’ In Lawsuit

Walt Disney Co was sued on Tuesday by a longtime Hollywood screenwriter and producer who accused the studio of copying its blockbuster, Oscar-winning animated film Zootopia from his work without permission.

Gary Goldman, whose credits include the Arnold Schwarzenegger film Total Recall and Tom Cruise film Minority Report, filed his copyright infringement lawsuit in the U.S. District Court in Los Angeles.

He said Disney replicated, sometimes virtually verbatim, the themes, settings, plot, characters and dialogue, as well as the title, of his Zootopia concept, which he had pitched to the studio in 2000 and 2009.

Disney and its affiliates embrace a culture that not only accepts the unauthorized copying of others original material, but encourages it, the lawsuit said. They did it with Zootopia, too, when they copied Gary L. Goldmans Zootopia.

In a statement, Disney said: Mr. Goldmans lawsuit is riddled with patently false allegations. It is an unprincipled attempt to lay claim to a successful film he didnt create, and we will vigorously defend against it in court.

Zootopia has grossed more than $1 billion worldwide since its release a year ago, and last month won the Academy Award for best animated feature film.

The film explores bias through the comedic story of a rabbit, voiced by the actress Ginnifer Goodwin, who leaves her rural hometown to join a big-city police force in an animal metropolis where prejudice and fear divide residents.

Byron Howard, the films co-director, said in accepting the Oscar that the development of Zootopia had begun about five years earlier, in hopes when the film came out it would make the world just a slightly better place.

Goldman, through his company Esplanade Productions Inc, is seeking unspecified compensatory and punitive damages, including from merchandise sales, reflecting what he called Disneys wanton, deliberate, malicious, and willful misconduct.

Jeffery McFarland, a lawyer for Goldman, declined additional comment, as did an outside spokesman for Goldman.

The case is Esplanade Productions Inc v Walt Disney Co et al, U.S. District Court, Central District of California, No. 17-02185.

Disney Accused Of Stealing Zootopia From Veteran Screenwriter! Read The Savage Lawsuit!

Someone call Officer Hopps, because Disney just got hit with a wild case.

Walt Disney Animation Studios is facing a big time lawsuit claiming that the Oscar-winning film Zootopia was ripped off from a noted screenwriter!

In the complaint filed on Tuesday, Total Recall writer Gary Goldman claims the Mouse House jacked character designs, themes, bits of dialogue, and even the name “Zootopia” from a project he started developing way back in 2000.

EXCLUSIVE: Kyle Massey Reveals If He’ll Be On The That’s So Raven Reboot!

Goldman says he registered a treatment for a live action film called Looney at that time, which was to be first installment in a Zootopia franchise that would also include an animated “Zootopia.”

The writer alleges that he pitched the project to Disney executives twice — in 2000 and 2009 — and was rejected.

But the complaint goes further, alleging Zootopia is the only the latest example of the entertainment titan’s long history of stealing movie ideas from others — including The Lion King, Toy Story, Monsters Inc., Up!, Inside Out to name a few.

The suit, which accuses Disney of breach of implied contract, breach of confidence and unfair competition, states:

“[Goldman] provided a treatment, a synopsis, character descriptions, character illustrations and other materials. He even provided a title for the franchise: ‘Zootopia.’ Instead of lawfully acquiring Goldman’s work, Defendants said they were not interested in producing it and sent him on his way. Thereafter, consistent with their culture of unauthorized copying, Defendants copied Goldman’s work. They copied Goldman’s themes, settings, plot, characters, and dialogue some virtually verbatim.”

Goldman’s concept reportedly followed a human animator who creates a cartoon animal world that reflected a complex human society, which included class and power struggles based on the natural characteristics of the different species.

And the suit just gets worse from there, even illustrating the similarities of Goldman’s artwork with the final characters:

The complaint states that Zootopia‘s source material is unmistakable given Goldman’s comprehensive work offering descriptions about characters and other elements — which he originally pitched to former Disney exec David Hoberman in 2000.

Hoberman responded positively, but ultimately passed on the project. Then Goldman tried again nine years later, shortly after being hired by Disney to write a screenplay called Blaze, based on a Stan Lee comic.

Related: Live Action Mulan Will Not Have Songs OR Li Shang!

The complaint adds that Goldman was working with Brigham Taylor, “Walt Disney Pictures’ Executive Vice President of Production and Development at the time,” who agreed to hear Goldman’s Zootopia pitch in February 2009.

Afterwards, Disney is alleged to have begun work on its own Zootopia, which ended up grossing more that $1 billion worldwide in theaters. Now, Goldman wants a piece of the pie!

However, the studio brushed off the allegations as false, responding via spokesperson:

“Mr. Goldman’s lawsuit is riddled with patently false allegations. It is an unprincipled attempt to lay claim to a successful film he didn’t create, and we will vigorously defend against it in court.”

Better lawyer up, Goldman! It’s about to get SAVAGE.

How Disney Subtly Made Beauty And The Beast More Feminist

For women who grew up in the late 80s and early 90s, few characters loom larger than Belle from the 1991 Disney movie Beauty and the Beast.

Compared to her Disney princess predecessors, Belle was a revelation. She wasnt asleep for 75 percent of a story that centered around her (Sleeping Beauty). She did more than dress up for a ball (Cinderella) and unintentionally threaten other women with her beauty (Snow White). And she didnt have to woo a man while physically stripped of her voice(The Little Mermaid). Belle, with her interest in learning and reading, and her lack of interest in being married off to a walking caricature of toxic masculinity, presented a portrait of a more empowered Disney princess.

The latest iteration of the 18th-century fairy tale is the live-action Beauty and the Beast starring Emma Watson, which came out over the weekend with a record-breaking $170 million in ticket sales. Its delightful to watch, complete with stunning visuals, splashy musical numbers and a subtle but refreshingly feminist update.

Feminists have long grappled with the contradictory forces that are at play in the 1991 Disney film. On the one hand, Belle maintains a strong sense of self throughout the movie. She has a passion for books. She is defiant in the face of men who want to make decisions for her. She is fiercely loyal to her father. She wants adventure much more than this provincial life. On the other hand, she falls in love with a literal animal who initially tells her that she must remain his prisoner forever.

Over the years, the movie has received strong criticism for romanticizing Stockholm Syndrome and sending a message to young girls that it is their job to tame the male beasts in their lives. The 2017 version of Beauty and the Beast had to contend with this critique before it was even released, withEmma Watson pushing back onit in a February interview with Entertainment Weekly.

Its something I really grappled with at the beginning; the kind of Stockholm Syndrome question about this story, she said. Thats where a prisoner will take on the characteristics of and fall in love with the captor.Belle actively argues and disagrees with [Beast] constantly. She has none of the characteristics of someone with Stockholm Syndrome because she keeps her independence, she keeps her independence of mind.

The new film goes to great lengths to demonstrate Belles agency in every part of the story, amplifying things that are only subtly touched on in the animated version, and in some cases, creating totally new pieces of plot.

In the 1991 film, Belle is an avid reader. In the 2017 version, she wants to pass that skill and passion along to other girls. (At one point in the film, she attempts to teach a young girl in town to read and is reprimanded by the older male schoolmaster.) And to make it even clearer that Belles mind not her pretty face is her greatest asset, the film turns her into an inventor. She is shown doing the laundry with a contraption she invented herself, sort of a horse-powered precursor to the washing machine.

The movie also makes a point to highlight her romantic agency. Belle rejects the overtures of town cad Gaston even more clearly in 2017 than she did in 1991, telling him flat-out that they could never ever make each other happy and that she will never marry him.

And when it comes to the slow burn romance between Belle and the Beast, the film at least attempts to offer a better explanation for their eventual amorous connection and attempts to make it clear that Belle never accepts her fate as a permanent prisoner. She swears to her father that she will escape from the Beasts castle when she forces him to to trade spots with her. On her first night in the castle, she begins constructing a long chain made of dresses, implying that she might use it in the future to scale her way out of the castle.

Later on, rather than simply justifying Belle and Beasts romantic bond with one life-saving incident, a few snowballs and a few books (though all of those elements are present in the new movie), the updated version leaves more room for their affection to grow. They discuss Shakespeare and King Arthur. They briefly travel to Paris through an enchanted book and learn about the fate of Belles mother a character whose existence is ignored in the animated movie. The resulting emotional intimacy bolsters the argument that the Beast has earned Belles eventual love.

As an added bonus, the side characters, both women and men, are fleshed out in ways that add to the stakes of the story. The audience is not just invested in Belle and her quest for love, understanding and adventure. We also feel for the other inhabitants of the cursed castle. The family film also highlights (albeit subtly) an openly gay character, Le Fou, and includes two prominent interracial couples Lumiere (Ewan McGregor) and Plumette (Gugu Mbatha-Raw), and Madame Garderobe (Audra McDonald) and new character Maestro Cadenza (Stanley Tucci).

Interestingly, despite its shortcomings, Beauty and the Beasthas always included elements of feminist commentary even in its earliest iterations. The fairy tale was first published in 1740 by Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve, and then revised and republished in 1756 by Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont. Even the earliest version of story which contains many narrative elements that the 1991 animated film does not pushed back on the notion that women must be resigned to a marital partner of their fathers choosing, something that was common practice in 18th-century France.

This theme of ownership over ones life choices comes through quite strongly in the 1991 film.

As French professor Paul Young told Timeof the storys 18th-century context: [Beauty and the Beast is] a story written and published by a woman, with a strong female character at its lead, who is very reflective and intelligent and she makes her own choices, which is not something you saw in French literature or in French society at the time.

Of course, there will always be limits to the progressive messaging of a story that involves a woman falling in love with a man who begins as her captor. But in 2017, thetale as old as time manages to strike a balance between the warmth of nostalgia and the importance of feminist progress. So, Disney, if youre thinking of giving feminist updates to more of the classics… Be Our Guest!

The AT-ATs are coming: Disney drops new Star Wars land details

It’s A Trap! Ominous Shapes Take Form At Disney’s ‘Star Wars’ Land

Disney is showing off some of the in-progress construction of its 14-acre Star Wars themed park at Disneyland.

The short clip shows the massive frames of two AT-ATs, or the fearsome all-terrain armored transport walkers from the film series.

The two will be used inside an attraction that puts guests in the middle of a climactic battle between the First Order and the Resistance, the company said.

The AT-ATs were introduced in The Empire Strikes Back, where they battled the rebels on the snowy terrain of Hoth, and thats also the design reflected in the animation in the clip that Disney provided.

However, since the new attraction will be themed to the current trilogy, the finished AT-ATs may or may not look like the ones fans are familiar with.

Star Wars fan and blogger Stormtrooper Larry last year highlighted the quick glimpses of what may have been newly designed AT-ATs in The Force Awakens.

Which ones will be in the ride? Stay tuned.

Disneys Star Wars themed lands, currently under construction at both Disneyland and Disney World, are scheduled to open in 2019.

These two new immersive lands will transport guests to a never-before-seen planet, a remote trading port and one of the last stops before wild space where Star Wars characters and their stories come to life and where guests will find themselves in the middle of the action, the company noted on its website.

In addition to the battle ride featuring the AT-ATs, there will also be a Millennium Falcon-themed attraction at each park and of course plenty of opportunities for merchandising.

Beauty and the Beast: Disney refuses to cut gay scene for Malaysian release

Studio says film has not been and will not be cut, meaning censors have a decision to make in country where homosexual activity is illegal

Disney says it will not cut a gay scene from Beauty and the Beast for release in Malaysia, despite a request from censors.

The live-action film, which stars Emma Watson, had been scheduled to open in cinemas in Malaysia on Thursday, but Disney indefinitely postponed the films release earlier this week after the countrys Film Censorship Board said it would only be approved if the scene was cut.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Disney has now moved the films release date to 30 March to allow time for the board to make a decision. However, a spokesman for the studio told the BBC that the the film has not been and will not be cut for release.

Homosexual activity remains illegal in Malaysia, and homosexual characters can only be depicted on screen if they show repentance or are portrayed negatively.

We have approved it but there is a minor cut involving a gay moment. It is only one short scene but it is inappropriate because many children will be watching this movie, the chairman of the censorship board, Abdul Halim, had previously said.

In the new version of Beauty and the Beast the character of LeFou, the sidekick of the storys villain Gaston, is confused about his sexuality, according to director Bill Condon. The film features an exclusively gay moment, where LeFou dances with another man.

The scene has already attracted controversy. In Russia the film was approved for release with a restrictive rating that prohibits those under the age of 16 from viewing it. The film has also been banned by a cinema in Alabama because of the scene.

How Disney’s original ‘Beauty and the Beast’ should have ended

BTW

As many fans who adored Beauty and the Beast as children have realized in recent years, the Disney classic is pretty flawed. But as How It Should Have Ended pointed out, the character choices arent the only things standing in its way.

If we really look at it, part of the story doesnt make much sense. How old was the Beastwhose name is never really said in the filmwhen he met the Enchantress? The curse couldve been lifted a lot faster with some manners, and even if those werent in place theres no tangible way the Beast wouldve survived all of his flesh wounds.

And those looking for that feminist critique? Theyve got you covered, and itll have you looking at Be Our Guest much differently in the process.

‘Gay moment’: Disney pulls Beauty and the Beast in Malaysia after censorship

Studio postpones release of film after state censorship board says scenes promoting homosexuality are forbidden

Walt Disney has shelved the release of its new film Beauty and the Beast in Malaysia after film censors said it could only be approved if cut to remove a gay moment.

The countrys two main cinema chains said the movie, due to begin screening on Thursday, had been postponed indefinitely.

Abdul Halim Abdul Hamid, film censorship board chairman, said he did not know why the film was postponed by Disney, as it had been approved by the board apart from a minor gay scene. He said scenes promoting homosexuality were forbidden and that the film was given a P13 rating, which requires parental guidance for children under 13 years of age.

We have approved it but there is a minor cut involving a gay moment. It is only one short scene but it is inappropriate because many children will be watching this movie, Abdul Halim said.

He said there was no appeal from Disney about the decision to cut the gay scene.

Disney officials did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The Star English-language newspaper cited the Disney company as saying the movie was postponed for an internal review.

The films characters include manservant LeFou, who plays the sidekick to the storys villain Gaston, and, according to director Bill Condon, is confused about his sexuality. Condon has described a brief scene as a gay moment.

Russia last week approved the movie but banned children under 16 from watching it.

Malaysias censors in 2010 loosened decades of restrictions on sexual and religious content in movies, but still kept a tight leash on tiny bikinis, kisses and passionate hugs.

The new rules allow depiction of gay characters, but only if they show repentance or are portrayed in a negative light. Sodomy, even if consensual, is punishable by up to 20 years in prison and whipping in Malaysia.

10+ Real Life Disney Characters

Disney Princess Bikinis Are Here And Its Every Disney Fans Dream Come True

No Disney remake will be able to top the 1997 ‘Cinderella’ with Whitney Houston and Brandy

Sorry, Beauty and the Beast: ABC’s 1997 televised remake of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella is thebest live-action remake of a princess film.

Yeah, I said it.

In the face of the highly anticipated Beauty and the Beast film coming out this weekend this may be a bold statement to make, but the layers within the ’90s TV version (technically based on Rodgers and Hammerstein’s 1957 televised musical, not the beloved Disney animated version) make it easy to argue that the Emmy-winning production deserves just as much praise now as it did then.

In a haze of glorious costumes and musical numbers from the industry’s brightest stars lies serious magic within a remarkably diverse casting that no Disney remake since has quite lived up to.

Brandy, fresh off of filming Moesha, was a relatively new face on television despite her popularity as a chart-topping singer. Her portrayal as the doe-eyed Cinderella encompassed every aspect of the classic character and worked effortlessly with Whitney Houston’s flawless fairy godmother. Ella’s evil stepmother, played by Bernadette Peters, oozes with subtle maliciousness that is sharp and fresh and her performance alongside the stepsisters is a mischievous delight to watch even as an adult. The original score even includes a bit of Whoopi Goldberg singing…and who doesn’t need more of that in their life?

All of these elements make watching or re-watching the film incredible, but a deeper look reveals a main reason why it was enchanting to begin with: The whole film is refreshingly diverse.

The two most important female roles are black and that’s remarkable in itself but, even beyond that, despite taking place in the past, there is a black queen and and a white husband ruling a kingdom who happen to have a Filipino son. There is no question or emphasis on the multi-racial families. There’s no subtle pointing out of the interracial relationship between Cinderella and the Prince or her multi-racial step-family. The world created by Rodgers & Hammerstein invites you to accept these as just the way they are for a little over an hour and it’s a beautiful phenomenon that I didn’t appreciate fully until much later.

“This may be a first. It makes perfect sense because of who we are. Before, it was either all-Black or all-White. But, never a normal mix of people. This integrated cast is how the real world is,” Whoopi Goldberg, who plays the Prince’s mother, explained to Jet magazine in 1997. “This is more normal than being part of a cast that doesnt have any color in it. This is perfectly fine. This is how I live.”

Representation of minorities in films is a huge problem. The negative impact on repeatedly seeing characters that look nothing like you as a child takes a certain toll, so to see Whitney, Brandy and Whoopirocking their curls, braids and locsand a whole world within the television that accurately reflected the diversity of communities tuned in felt revolutionary.

As a young girl who consumed your average amount of movies, seeing Brandy as Cinderella on screen was groundbreaking. I had grown up in a time where future Disney characters like Tiana did not exist and the reason why didn’t cross my minduntil this Cinderella. Seeing a princess with box braids like mine and a fairy godmother like Whitney, who could have been my own mother or any one of my aunties, gave me and girls who looked like me a glimpse at an early age of why it is necessary to demand representation of all types of people playing all times of roles in films.

Sure, it may not have had the most outstanding dialogue or special effects but regardless, there were high standards set with Cinderella. With a hefty lineup of live-action remakes coming soon, perhaps it’s wise to pay close attention to the magic that still lingers from this 1997 masterpiece.

Update: An earlier version of this post referred to the 1997 ABC television movie as a Disney production. While Disney owns ABC, technically this piece was based on the 1957 broadcast of Cinderella, not the animated Disney flick.

Disney Reveals Secret Connections Between Films In New ‘Easter Egg’ Video

Disney animators seem to love hiding subtle nods to the companys other films. The latest in a series ofEaster Egg videosshows how Disney characters from one film have a tendency to show up in others.

Some of them are obvious, like the brief moment in Moana when Maui transforms into Sven, the reindeer from Frozen.Other cameos are so quick or subtle that only hardcore fans with a finger on the pause button might catch them, like the Beasts appearance in Aladdin.

See some of the best in the clip above from Oh My Disney, and check out an earlier edition showing the secret connections between Pixar films.

This Is The Heartbreaking Thing You Don’t Know About Disney’s ‘Beauty And The Beast’

If you’re a huge fan of “Beauty and the Beast,” you’re probably dying to see the live-action remake that’s coming out in theaters next week.

Like many other people, I absolutely loved the 1991 animated film when I was a little girl — in fact, it’s my favorite Disney movie of all time. There are many parts that make the movie so special, but what really stuck out for me was the music and the portrayal of an outcast who became worthy of love. What you may not know is that these aspects may not have been included if not for the original movie’s lyricist, Howard Ashman.

The film was originally conceived as a non-musical and only focused on Belle, but following the success of “The Little Mermaid,” Disney brought on composer Alan Menken and lyricist Howard Ashman to write the songs. Ashman had just found out he had AIDS but kept working while dealing with the disease. That’s when he came up with the idea to change it into a musical that centered on Belle and the Beast.

“And specifically for him it was a metaphor for AIDS,” said Bill Condon, director of the live-action film. “He was cursed and this curse had brought sorrow on all those people who loved him and maybe there was a chance for a miracle and a way for the curse to be lifted. It was a very concrete thing that [Ashman] was doing.”

Unfortunately, Ashman died only four days before the first screening of the movie — but the new live-action film will honor his memory by including Disney’s first gay character.

From Gaston to Cruella, these are the best Disney villain songs

Image: mashable/vicky leta

As we prepare for the theatrical release of Disney’s live-action Beauty and the Beast, it’s important to remember that Disney villains, nefarious though they are, get some really stellar songs. From beloved classics to video releases (shoutout to you, Aladdin and the King of Thieves), we ranked the top ten antagonistic anthems in the Disney archive.

10. “Cruella De Vil” – Roger, 101 Dalmatians

Okay, she doesn’t get to sing it, but she doesn’t need to. Cruella’s misanthropy is so ubiquitous that Roger can’t help breaking into song to describe it (or perhaps to deflect his fear).

9. “Hellfire” – Judge Claude Frollo, The Hunchback of Notre Dame

Warning if you haven’t watched this song a single time since childhood: It’s a lot. It starts with Frollo singing about his illicit attraction to Esmeralda and escalates disturbingly quickly into him wishing her dead unless they can be together. V UNCOOL.

8. “Are You In Or Out?” – Sa’luk, Aladdin and the King of Thieves

Aladdin‘s straight-to-video 1996 threequel (none of which are promising descriptors!) introduced the brutish Sa’luk (Jerry Orbach), one of the bitter 40 thieves who turned to Aladdin’s father for leadership. With the old king gone, Sa’luk comes back to rally his remaining cohorts and attack the innocent once more.

7. “Friends on the Other Side” – Dr. Facilier, The Princess and the Frog

Facilier channels his magically gifted villain predecessors in this dastardly ditty inspired by New Orleans and the mystery of voodoo. It’s hard to resist Keith David’s musical charisma as the shadows and skulls grow increasingly sinister until it’s too late for Prince Naveen to escape.

6. “Prince Ali” (reprise) – Jafar, Aladdin

The only thing that keeps this song from a higher spot on the list is how tragically short it is. Still, Jafar makes the most of the creepy reprise, at which point he has mastered the genie, plans to enslave Jasmine and her father and banishes Aladdin to “the ends of the earth” without even a shirt to protect himself from its chill.

5. “Mother knows best” – Mother Gothel, Tangled

Rapunzel’s mother is so many kinds of evil, but watching her justify her daughter’s indefinite imprisonment in a tower is a special kind of cruel. Donna Murphy performs the deceptively upbeat number like a true Broadway diva going in for the kill, and she nails it.

4. “Savages” – Pocahontas

This West Side Story-esque pre-rumble mashup is an overt way to illustrate to children that xenophobia is the wrong side of history. The colonists prepare for attack while the tribe prepares to defend and at the center of it all, Pocahontas must figure out how to save John Smith from his death.

3. “Gaston” – Gaston, Beauty and the Beast

The first fuckboy you ever knew was a fictitious French bodybuilder who only cared about looks his, primarily, and those of the woman he would marry. Beauty and the Beast introduces Gaston as a thick-necked jerk, but we quickly see his dark side as he plots to manipulate Belle and her father.

2. “Poor Unfortunate Souls” – Ursula, The Little Mermaid

The Sea Witch shimmies, shakes and tricks a naive and attractive girl into potentially selling her soul for a boy. The whole number is thick with sarcasm, dripping with disdain and bursting with vanity for the powers she possesses and longs to use. BODY LANGUAGE, HAA.

1. “Be Prepared” – Scar, The Lion King

This number has everything: Toxic green smoke, choreographed dancing hyenas and a string of SAT words you’ll never forget. It is immensely satisfying. Jeremy Irons gives a fabulous performance as Scar through this twisted tale of an impending coup and fratricide just how Shakespeare pictured it.

Hate Group Offers ‘Godly’ Alternative To Disney’s Gay ‘Agenda’

Disneys live action Beauty and the Beast reboot doesnt hit theaters until Friday, but thecontroversy over the movies inclusion of an exclusively gay moment continues to rage.

In what Britains Attitude magazine touted as a history-making moment for Disney, the character of LeFou (Josh Gad) is apparently shown to be questioning his feelings for the films dashing villain, Gaston (Luke Evans). Though its been two weeks since director Bill Condons Attitude interview, LeFous subplot has become a major talking point, with a conservative-ownedbusiness, an evangelical pastor, a concernedparentand Russian lawmakersall condemningBeauty and the Beast, sight unseen.

Now, an established anti-LGBTQ group is asking parents to speak out against Disney by supporting a godly animated movie instead of taking their children to see Beauty and the Beast. The American Family Association (AFA), which the Southern Poverty Law Center has designated as a hate group, has launched an online fundraiser for the production of The Pilgrims Progress. (You can view snippets of the film, which is said to be aiming for a 2018 release, in the video above.)

Parents should be warned that Disney has given the green light to a strong LGBTQ agenda in a movie that targets the 5- to 11-year-old demographic market, AFA officials wrote on the PIlgrims Progress fundraising page.

The fundraiser offers few details about The Pilgrims Progress other than calling it one of the most impactful stories ever written. It seems likely to be an adaptation of the 1678 Christian allegoryof the same name, written by John Bunyan, who was repeatedly jailed for preaching without a license.

If parents dont push back today and take a strong stand, AFA officials wrote, Disney will continue to allow more childrens movies to push the homosexual agenda.

Still, from the sounds of it, the brouhaha over LeFous sexuality is much ado about… well, not a whole heck of a lot. Gad and Emma Watson (Belle) have made efforts to downplay the controversy, as has composer Alan Menken, who co-wrote the films music. But the most memorable response came from Ewan McGregor (Lumire), who simply noted,Its 2017, for f*cks sake.

Keep up with the latest LGBTQ news with the Queer Voices newsletter.
