Actors Mena Massoud andNaomi Scottwill star as Aladdin and Jasmine in the upcoming Disney live-action remake of Aladdin, the film studio announced Saturday. Massoud, a relatively unknown actor, was chosen after Disney auditioned more than 2,000 individuals for the titular role over several months. The movie will also feature Will Smith in the role of the Genie.Aladdin is the latest live-action adaptation of a classic Disney animated film. Others in the works include the upcomingMulanmovie, from director NikiCaro, and Jon Favreau'sLion King.
